About Canadian Citizenship Test

Preparing for the Canadian Citizenship involves the process of three to four steps. The citizenship test is the last step to cross for everyone who wants to participate in the citizenship ceremony. The Canadian citizenship test is organized in order to show your knowledge and eligibility of becoming the citizen of Canada. After the process of filling application form and submission of fees, meeting all the eligibility criteria, one needs to go through the citizenship.

What is the test about?

The test consists of 20 multiple questions based upon the facts and general knowledge about Canada. During this written examination, you will be asked about the rights, freedom and responsibilities of the Canadian Citizen. Democracy, political history, social and cultural life, geography, monarchy and branches of government are the main points you should study about to pass the Canadian citizenship test.

The test is later followed by an interview which is taken by a citizenship officer in English or French.

How to prepare for the test?

An official guide has been released by CIC for preparation of the citizenship test. The guide, ‘Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship’ bears all the basic information about the country so that you will get all the study material within this guide. You can find this guide online and download it from there. Apart from this, you can also take help of sample study guide questions for preparation of the test.

How to plan for the test?

After submitting an application for the Canadian Citizenship, you are notified by CIC for particular date and time for the test. If you think you will not be available on that date, you can request for rescheduling the date. For this purpose, you will have to contact the call centre. In case you don’t want to attend the test, you should contact to the call centre for the same so that your application will be closed.

You can opt for oral or written test; for instance, if you have problem in reading and writing English or French, you can give the oral test. You need to carry your original documents with your application when you go for the test. Also a passport or travel document is requires that you have used in the four years before you applied for citizenship of Canada.

After you pass the test, you are provided with a citizenship ceremony date where you take oath of being the citizen of Canada and get the citizenship certificate.
